Phase out of electric water heaters

Water heating is the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions from the average Australian home and accounts for about a quarter of household energy use (source Australian and State Government Fact Sheet).

In a concerted effort the governments are working out a phase out of green-house intensive water heaters and this commenced in 2010.

In Queensland new homes already come under new legislation banning the installation of electric water heaters.
